#East Side Union High School District

The number of unhoused students and families in the East Side Union High School District in San Jose has increased from 300 in 2020 to 900 this holiday season.

Housing costs, inflation, and job loss are contributing factors to the increase in homelessness among students and families in the district.

The district has created a 'district parent and community involved specialist' role at each campus and is launching a fundraiser to support homeless students through the McKinney-Vento Program. [ more ]

The number of homeless high school students and families in one East San Jose school district has tripled in three years.

The definition of homeless has expanded to include students living in cars, sharing apartments, or couch surfing.

The East Side Union High School District is working with the East Side Education Foundation to support the needs of homeless students. [ more ]
